Stoney Nakoda Resort Casino is owned by the Stoney First Nation, which is comprised of the Bearspaw, Chiniki and Wesley bands. The casino opened in 2009 and the hotel opened in 2010. This resort casino is located 20 minutes east of Canmore and 30 minutes west of Calgary at the junction of the Trans-Canada and Highway 40. About Stoney Nakoda Resort. On June 10, 2008, the doors of Stoney Nakoda Resort were officially opened. Less than a year later, in February 2009, the resort partially completed its hotel and began hosting guests.
